My character designs are crafted in many different lights, with attributes that match their personalities. Most of the time I do not give characters a background, preferring to let the character be the focus. However, everything is relative to circumstance.
Techniques
Six Flags Girls: Thick lines drawn, then digitally erased to create oddly shaped lines. Half-color to keep sketch quality.
Bryan: Digital oil pen, no line, very little change in color. Consistent work. Background is simple, but adds to color consistency.
Broadsword Youth: Character is androgynous. Color is meant to be consistent, with no line.
Elvyn Prince: Similar to its two predecessors, color defines shape. Whites were used in strategic areas to create almost-inhuman shine on skin, while clothes were left matte.
Authusa: Line has been colored to match scale-tone, while flame background was kept without line for separation.
The Goddess: Linoleum relief block print, two layers. Block blacks that define shape.
